Lost internet connection after upgrading to SP4 Win2K Pro

I recently had a drive crash and had to do a complete reinstall of Win2K
Pro. Prior to the crash had SP3 loaded. Tried to load on SP4 and lost
my internet connection. As long as I drop the SP can connect. Have
tried installing SP1, SP3 and SP4 each with the same result, no internet.

Running a 1.4gig Athalon on an ASUS VIA KT400/KT333 series MB, with a
gig of memory, 60 and 80 gig drives and NDIVIA AGP, MB has onboard LAN
card. Using a 5 port hub to connect 2 puters to cable modem and Road
Runner.

I have tried with and without Noron, Spy Sweeper etc. Tried running
Win2K setup to repair files.

Any ideas on what may be causing this?

It could be that there's a new network card driver that's been included
as part of the service pack. try downloading the network card driver
from the manufacturer so you get the latest one, then apply the service
pack,
then install the network card driver over the top of it.

you might also want to check your settings on the network via the control
panels. it might be that you've set all the rest to something like 100 tx
full duplex,
and when the service pack goes on, it resets to 10tx half duplex...
therefore,
it doesn't appear to work.

what comes up under ipconfig /all & can you ping the other machine?

Hi!

I've got the same thing. IE time's out internet connections after SP
install.
**However machine gets IP-address and MS-DOS screen commands lik
telnet and ping work without problem** Other windows apps like Oper
won't connect to internet either.

Installation flow
1) Empty machince (Shuttle ST62k), clean Win2K professional
install
2) Zone alarm + Panda antivirus install
3) Latest network driver etc. download from vendor site
(Realtek NIC)
4) AT THIS POINT EVERYTHING WORKS
5) SP4 download from Windows Update (no other hotfixes etc.
downloaded before)
6) IE and windows internet apps quit working, system gets
ip and msdos-commands work (ping, telnet etc.)

Only things I've found on net is issue with Norton but this system doe
not have norton. Zonelabs / Panda sites do not report any sp
connection problems.

Problem must be inside sp4 but where?

Help!

One more thing:
I also tried to fix the problem by removing TCP/IP from
network settings and reinstalling it (no errors) but
after that I lost totally network, also on ms-dos level,
error message for ipconfig /renew is:
"Tried to connect to something not a socket"

After that even SP4 unistall (which solved the problem earlier) did no
help and now I'm re-installing windows
from scratch.

This is frustrating, but happy easter to everyone.
