locksup on screen with Knight Rider Blue Band

XP locks up during boot up on the first screen with the logo. I have been
able to get into XP sing create bootlog. However I can't read the boot log -
the bootlog.txt and bootlog.prv only relate to Windows 98. There are no
files on the system partition that XP is installed on. How do I view the
boot log?

You haven't given much information. If you UPGRADED to Windows XP: Have you
tried booting into Safe Mode (Press the F8 key on boot BEFORE the Windows
logo). If you can boot into Safe Mode, then there's a probability that you
didn't run the Check System Compatibility wizard on the Windows XP Upgrade
CD, which would have listed what on your system isn't Windows XP compatible.
Often, people forget to uninstall their antivirus program (which usually
isn't compatible with Windows XP). Sometimes the fix is as simple as
downloading and installing the latest Windows XP compatible driver for your
Display Adapter, which can be found at the maker's web site. But, if none
of the above is applicable, and the system HAD been operating properly, and
now you have this problem: Boot into Safe Mode, take the option to go
directly to System Restore, and opt to restore your computer to an earlier
time, click next, click a date on the calendar that's in bold font (the
dates in bold font are the one's that have System Restore Points) and select
a date just prior to the problem, then in the right pane click to highlight
a Restore Point for that date, and finish the wizard. If that doesn't fix
the problem, it could be virus or defective hardware related. To determine
that, try doing a Repair Install, which keeps data and programs and repairs
Windows XP. Go to:

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm

When the page opens, scroll down and click on: How To Run A Repair
Install. There is a step by step walk through including images. Your
software, settings, data files, desktop, etc. are retained.

Windows XP Repair Installs have save me a few times...

I read your post again, and now it makes less sense when I take the Subject
into account, rather than the body of the post. I can't tell whether you
mean that Windows XP won't boot, or a program named Knight Rider Blue Band
won't run. If it's an old program that won't run, right click the icon for
it, left click properties, click the Compatibility tab, and try setting it
to run in the Windows 98 or Windows 95 Mode. If it's an older program that
will only run 640x480 and/or with only 256 colors, select those options too.
If that works, then when you exit the game, the system will automatically go
back to its default Windows XP settings. NOT all older software will work
in compatibility modes. Some does and some doesn't. But, if Windows XP
itself won't run, and the problem began with the install of that program,
boot into Safe Mode as described in my first post, go to Control Panel/Add
or Remove Programs, and uninstall the program. Then go to
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore, and restore from a
Restore Point just prior to the install of that program. If the above isn't
applicable to the problem, then follow the instructions in my first post, or
supply more information.

Yes, I did upgrade to XP as a fresh install. Generally XP has been running
fine for the last few years until this problem yesterday.

Also Safe mode isn't any better - can't see what's happening after mup.sys.
Boot Log Mode works fine.
