Local Area Connection Icon

I have a new pc and use dial up for internet and email. My problem is the pc also has an Ethernet port in the back and I have this little icon on the right side of the task bar that says, "Local Area Connection, A network cable is unplugged." Basically I would like to eliminate that icon as it is a little confusing seeing it there all the time.
Thanks

Hey.
Right click on the icon and select "open network connections". Then in the
Network connections window, right click on the lan connection and select
"properties". Then under the "general tab" right at the bottom, untick the
box that says "show icon in notification area when connected" . This removes
the icon when the lan is connected.
Now if you want to just remove the icon when it is not connected, when you
right click on the lan connection under network connections, select
"disable".
If you do want to use the lan in future, you will have to select enable....

Cheers
