Linked Spreadsheet - Giving me Edit Links everytime

I am having a problem with linked spreadsheets giving the same error message,
but the links are all okay. Why does it continue to give me this. I will be
teaching Engineering Project Managers to use this and I want it to be as
simple as possible, and I don't want them to have to edit links everytime
they update the information. Please help.

P.S. On the page to edit the links I did hit the Startup Prompt button and
did select "Don't display the alert and update links." But, alas, the
message "This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated."

I know that I have never had this issue before on other linked spreadsheets.
Is it something in the main preferences? HELP!

Hi Doncow,
P.S. On the page to edit the links I did hit the Startup Prompt button and
did select "Don't display the alert and update links." But, alas, the
message "This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated."

One of the links is probably pointing to a file that somehow cannot be found.
You must check the links and find the missing one. Excel 2003 has a button
especially for that purpose on the edit, links dialog.

Jan,

Thanks for your reply, but I have done that several times. I know that is a
possibility and I have pointed to the right files (which have not changed)
about 10 times -- each and every linked file in the spreadsheet. There is
something going on that is unusual, and I cannot figure it out.

Also, check your Names. These can have links to other workbooks, Searching
doesn't find them, and the tools like Break Links don't break them. They're
insidious.

Thank you, Jan. I used the List feature and I found the error. It was a
link on the first page of 7 pages and 300 links, and I don't have a clue how
it got there. I certainly don't remember putting it there. That list
feature is EXCELLENT. Thanks so much.
