Leftover 'Uninstall' files!?

Directly under the 'WINNT' directory is a list
of 'Uninstall' files/directories - all in brilliant BLUE.
Wow. Other than occupying over 300Mb of space, the 3,000+
files are only causing one (minor) problem that I can
determine.

When an application scan is run in Norton Internet
Security, numerous applications are 'found' several times
in different locations, including in
the '$NtServicePackUninstall$' directory.

The other entries in this area appear to be as a result
of 'critical updates', having names such
as '$NtUninstallB823559$',
'$NtUninstall280838$', etc.

I am not aware of any problems with the system, So, can
those item in BLUE be safely deleted? What would be the
result if they were deleted?

you can safely delete this folders. Its not recommended though, I would only
do it if you are very low on HDD space. Once these Folders are deleted you
will not be able to uninstall Service Packs and Hotfixes any more.
"$NtServicePackUninstall$" directories are for SP Uninstalls.
"$NtUninstall280838$" directories are for Hotfixes uninstall. (the number
refers to the Hotfix number and the MS KB Article Number as well). Note: The
color of those Folders is *blue*, because they are compressed. If you don't
want to appear in *blue* you can always change this in Tools->Folder
Options->View->Display compressed files and folders with alternate color
(uncheck this box if you don't like the blue).

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
