KB867801, over and over and over...

Windows Update KB867801 keeps infinitely re-installing
itself. Every time I go to Windows Update, it says I need
to install KB867801. I do so, and it claims to install
successfully. But when I reboot and return, it says it
needs to install again. It shows having installed
successfully many, many times when I click "View
Installation History" at the Windows Update site. But if
I go to Add/Remove Programs, it's nowhere in the list.
Nor is there a C:\WINNT\$NtUninstallKB867801$ folder to be
found on my PC. I wouldn't care much about this, except
that I've configured my PC to automatically download
overnight, so it's rebooting every night, which is very
annoying. Any ideas? Your assistance will be greatly
appreciated.

In add/remove check for "Internet Explorer Q867801"
To remove also try:
C:\WINNT\ieuninst.exe C:\WINNT\INF\Q867801.inf

I found "Internet Explorer Q867801", uninstalled it, then
re-installed critical update KB867801 via Windows Update.
Unfortunately, no luck; the update still didn't "take".
Thanks for helping me locate the uninstall program though.

What vid.card and drivers version are installed?

What vid.card and drivers version are installed?

Now there's a good question. Since it's my desktop PC at
work, I've never cared to look. If what the Device
Manager says can be trusted, the Display Adapter is an SiS
630/730 version 5.13.1.2060 1/8/2002, and the monitor is a
Default Monitor version 10/1/1999. (The monitor is
actually an NEC MultiSync 95.) Though I suspect the next
thing you're going to tell me is to update these, I'm
curious to hear what you have to say next, especially the
relevance. :)

The relevance (?) was that I had problems with this update and after much
delving I found that a driver associated with my vid.card was not
loading/and or registered correctly. Although my display/dual display
functioned without any sign of a problem.
The problem only occurred after this update, however since yr vid. drivers
have been in place for some time this is obviously irrelevant.
I have seen it suggested that downloading the update, in its entirety, to hd
and installing from there may help in some cases
