Kaspersky AV advice needed

Hi all,
Anyone here have experience with the above, I recently installed it and
it seem very "processor greedy" I have a 1.3 athlon and it uses upto 100% on
doing a full scan (which can take over 2 hours) ok I have 2 hard drives of
80 and 40 gig, but is this normal and if not can it be speeded up?

I downloaded a trial less than a week ago and could not run it properly
because of the cpu usage.I do however have a "low" spec machine only a 733
p3.It slowed everything down to a crawl on the recommended
setting.Apparently it can be a resource hog , though some dont seem to have
any problems at all.If you want it as just an on demand scanner then id
recommend escan antivirus toolkit.It uses the kaspersky engine , can be
updated (weekly) and can disinfect /delete viruses.

The system scan is very slow, comparred to others, especially NOD32. But
the real-time and email protection afforded by KAV is the best out there.

Once you have an initial system scan, and you maintain current updates,
subsequent "full" scans aren't really needed.

Good find. You can extract the files from the mwav.exe file just as
you can from antidote.exe. However, besides the cleaning advantage
over SuperLite, there is a updater you can use as well. The updater is
kavupd.exe and the main program file is mwavscan.com

The updater and the main program are all I've taken a quick look at so
far. This really looks so far like a excellent find! It updated from
the extra defs site. I'll be doing more testing and then I'll put
something up at my web site in the way of instructions for emergency
use.

Yes its a nice find though not mine.It was mentioned at wilders site in an
old post.The link was from a guys website which hosted lots of free avs and
security tools.Unfortunatly ive lost the website address and wilders
link.Ill try to find it again as it contained some nice stuff there.Its also
nice to have the kaspersky detection without the resource
hogging.Unfortunatly i couldnt even complet the 30 day trial of kaspersky 5
because it brought my pc to a standstill.

I had the same problem. It was an incompatability with Nvidia Nview (which
doesn't appear to be a problem anymore). When I turned Nview off, my KAV
was no longer a processor hog. Kav fixed the incompatability and I am never
even aware when it is scanning now!

Unplug your internet connection and disable various start-up items to see
if that is the case. They will fix it if you find an incompatability. That
is if you want the program bad enough. I did and am very happy to have had
a peaceful, virus free computer ever since I got KAV.

get NOD32. It is better than KAV. I use to be an avid KAV user. It was a
greedy bugger when it came to system resources. NOD32 has rated higher than
KAV in all respects. Its got more VB100% awards than KAV. The interface is
so simple and not so convoluted as KAV. Just get NOD32, you wont be
disappointed.

simplified, and is absolutely up there with NOD. It's also not as big
a pig as the 4.x releases. From what I've read, KAV is also a
superior malware detector.

Oh version 5.x already? Yes you are right, I was previously using KAV 4.x. I
will look into it further as a comparitive to NOD32. Thanks!

I was using 3.5 with Win98SE and they worked well together. When I
went to XP, 3.5 would not install, so I tried 4.x and what a pig. I
had tried a couple of others, but ended back with KAV 5.

However, I have real-time protection disabled as it slows my PC down
too much. I am using an 800 Mhz duron. I intend to upgrade my hardware
to a P4 later in the year, so it should be able to keep up with this
on.
