Karaoke Mode under Media Player 9

I installed Windows Media Player version 9 and when I play
MP3 audio the songs sound fine except the lead vocal track
does not play. I can hear it faintly in the background,
but sounds like it is muted. Instrumental and background
vocals play at normal sound levels. The exact same files
play fine in WinAmp?
