ISO a freeware File Utility to sort into alphabetized folders - any suggestion appreciated

I have been looking for a utility that would sort a folder of files
alphabetically by the first letter. E.g.-- # A B C D E and so on.
I had a utility that would do this for both files and fonts (TTF & T1), but
lost it in a crash some time ago. It was a simple utility that did not
require an install. It was simply drop-in desired directory and run. I
cannot remember the name of that simple freeware file sort utility. It
trully was a handy utility.
Could anyone suggest something same/similar to what I seek? I trully would
appreciate any help.

thank-you for reading this mailing

I'm not sure what you mean by sorting a folder (cause explorer also is
capable "sorting" the content of a folder by first letter), but maybe
FileSieve is your friend:

-- snip --
File Sieve is a small application designed to create 27 (#-Z)
directories and sort (sieve) the files in a selected source directory
into them by examining the first character in their filenames. This can
be a significant time-saver for a simple but extremely repetitive task.

Thank-you very much for taking the time to respond. I will look in to
your suggestion. There are some other interesting utilities available
there at the site your suggests. I will leisurely browse them after
sending this mail.

take care,
