Is there a range function (i.e. Max(range of cells)-Min(range of cells))??

I've searched both in my Excel book and in these forums and haven'
found anything like this. I know I can do Max-Min, but it seems like
function should exist for this.

Thanks,
Kat

Kate,

Why should such a function exist? It sounds like a rare request to me, and
there are functions that can get that result.

Excel can't have a function for every possibility.

You are correct-there is no RANGE function.
If using MAX-MIN bothers you then:
a) use Tools|Data Analysis->Descriptive Stats (beware the results are not
volatile)
or
b) make a User Defined Function (suggested name MyRange) and put it in
Personal.xls so that it is always available on your PC

Hi Kate!

I'm puzzled. What does max-min mean to you?

To me, it is two pieces of information: the max value in a range an
the min value in a range.

So I would ask for max(range) and min(range). Two operations. Tw
results.

Even if, as Bernard suggests, you produce a Range() function, it wil
still have to return 2 results (which, basically, functions don't do).

If all you want is Max(range)-Min(range) to give you the "band width"
then there it is: =Max(Range)-Min(Range).
