Is "Redemption Helper Outlook Extension" a Spyware Add In?

Thank you for your reply.

Is there a list somewhere of the add-ins that are spam-related?

TIA

Outlook Redemption is not spyware...in fact, its author is an Outlook MVP.
See http://www.dimastr.com/redemption/ for more information.

I don't know of a list of add-ins that ARE spyware, but you can check
Slipstick.com for lists of add-ins that should be safe.

Redemption itself is not spam-related - but the addin that installs it (to
bypass the security mode) could possibly be, since one of the dialogs it
bypasses is the one that says something is trying to send mail on your
behalf when you do a mail merge. What addins or 3rd party mail utilities do
you have installed?

Thanks Diane,

In the "Add-In Manager window, I have:

PGP Plugin
DCCExtensions
Exchange extensions property pages
Redemption Helper Outlook Extension

In "COM Add-Ins:

Outlook Backup Addn
SpamAddin

The item "SpamAddin" is associated with SpamBlocker. Unchecking
"Redemption Helper Outlook Extension" doesn't seem to affect
SpamBlocker.

I'm just curious about the "Redemption Helper Outlook Extension" item
.... it's not causing any problem that I'm aware of ... I was looking
for addins that might make my Outlook 2002 load at a snail's pace.
(In the Adobe products, removing the plug-ins makes the program load
1000% faster, so I thought I'd look in Outlook.)

My Google search in *all* the newsgroups yeilded only one message (in
English, that is) from Ken Slovak which was:

"It sounds like you are uninstalling Redemption but not unregistering
it. If you are letting Redemption self-register you might need to have
an uninstall script that runs during uninstallation to unregister
Redemption.
