is powerpoint clipart copyright protected?

I used some powerpoint clipart to make a diagram for a powerpoint
presentation. The diagram proved useful so i used it in a research paper.

I'm wondering is the powerpoint clipart copyright protected? Can i publish
my diagram in a conference proceedings or do i need to clear it with someone
at microsoft?

thanks

Thanks Echo-- I now can submit my research paper for publication with some
peace of mind. The release forms that publishers make one sign to publish a
simple research paper can induce unwarranted worries about copyright
infringement! Thanks again.

Clipart from MS is there to be used exactly as you did. You don't need
permission to use it as part of your diagram/presentation/research
paper/publication.

You wouldn't believe how long it took me to find this page on the MS Office
Online site. God forbid they make anything straightforward and easy!
