Invalid System Disk - After Installing Windows Vista

I installed windows vista with no problems, until I removed the install CD.
Once I removed the CD and the computer boots up, I get a message saying
"Invalid system Disk" Replace Disk, and then press any key.

If I put the Windows Vista Install CD back into my computer. My computer
boots fine off of my C drive.

I did a 2nd new install and the same thing happens again.

The reason I am in this situation is because two months ago, I installed
Vista no problems and it worked fine until one time when I restarted my
computer the only thing I could see was my mouse pointer. I tried everything
then I had no choice but to wipe my hard drive and start over.

Anyone have any suggestions????

I had the same problem, it's addressed elsewhere in this group. Has
something to do with having more than one harddrive at the time of
installation. You may only have one HDD connected during installation.
Vista spreads the boot info across the boot sectors of both disks.

You did have two HDDs didn't you?

Well, as I understand the problem, the info above only applies to
machines which have SATA drives, not the older (standard) PATA drives.

I welcome any corrections, of course.

Run Vista's Disk Management snap-in to see which disk contains the
system partitiion. That's the disk that the BIOS should be set to
boot.
