Internet explorer unable to run Java applets

I have windows xp and of late my internet explorer does
not support active scripting or scripting of Java applets.
This causes the browser to hang whenever I try to open
links or pages that have active scripting or Java applets.

In order for the browser to work I am forced to disable
scripting of Java applets and Active scripting. How can
solve this problem permanently?

With IE open, go to Tools > Options > Security > Customized. Make sure
JavaScript is enabled. Go to Advanced tab. Click on Restore Default
button. Click OK.

Thanks for the tip, however, It did not solve my problem.
Any pages with Java applets still do not load. I have even
installed Java version 1.4.2_03 but this still does not
help.
