Installed DVD player and power dvd but wont play dvd in window media player 9

I installed a new dvd burner and installed powerdvd xp
and it plays dvd's fine, but If I try to play in windows
media player I get an error about copyright or codec.I
have nero installed and sld codec pack before installing
powerdvd could any of those cause the problem or what
should I do?
