Installation Issue with MS Personal Web Server

When installing MS FrontPage 2000 I receive the following error message:

"Unable to access configuration for microsoft personal web server". I found
a work around in the MS Knowledge Base but the PWSTray is not listed under
the System Configuration utility.

Has anyone ever had these issues and if so were you able to find a solution?

Thanks.

What O/S are you installing FP 2000 on? If Windows XP Pro, it doesn't use
PWS, but uses IIS 5.1 that comes with it. You would not install the PWS.

If installing to Win XP Home, it does not support a MS web server, and you
would do a custom install to not install the web server, and use disk based
webs.

I am using Windows XP Pro. During the installation process I received this
error message "Unable to access configuration for microsoft personal web
server". When I open a file in FrontPage my system freezes and then starts
shutting down. Any suggestions on whether the two are related?

The installation order should be:

Install IIS and the FP server extensions.
Install FrontPage (custom without a PWS)

Hi!
I have the same problem with the installation of Microsoft Office 2000 Premium.
It puzzles me mostly because it's the first time that this happens to me.
The story is: every now and then I format my computer and reisntall everything as per factory conditions with the recovery discs the producer provided me with. Then I re-install all the software I need, including Microsoft Office. Then, I also install Service Release 1a. Now, this won't work any more. When I try to install the SR 1a, the meassage I receive is that the indicated version of MS Office cannot be found on my system!
I formatted everything again, trying to follow the same steps as previous times. I inserted the cd of MS office 2000 and at the end of the installation I received the message:

Unable to access configuration for Microsoft Personal Web Server

I have Windows XP Pro.
I don't understand why I never had such a problem and now I do. Does it happen because first I need to have installed all the necessary Windows updates (my computer was originally manufactured in 2006, so all original software in the recovery discs dates back to that time).

As I said, I have formatted my computer at least 5 times and everything was reset smoothly.

I really need to be able to update Word 2000 with the service Release for work.

I know word 2000 is old, but I don't really like versions Word 2003 and 2007.
I also have another question: I have noticed that the English version on Word2003/2007 does not have Italian dictionary. Is it possible to install it in any way? I need it and that's one reason why I still stick to my word 2000 (Italian version).

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me. If you can help me, please write instructions clearly, as I might be a bit slow...For example, in your reply Wallet you wrote:

But this doesn't tell me how to do it. On the disk of MS Office I can choose custom installation, but I cannot see where to select/deselect PWS or IIS 5.1.

Please help!

Sandra
