Installation Failure

Steve G

I've installed a new drive on a Gateway E4200 (PII 400)
and the Win2K install fails.

I can get it to install Win98.

I have 2 Win2kPro CD's - Both fail as they review the
configuration

One fails with the message Line 10650 of the Inf file is
invalid
the other fails with Line 10653

One possible problem is a BIOS incompatability - I
upgraded per Gateway instructions to version..... .0033
where my other machines are ..... .0029

I have all other info, motherboard stats etc and have even
tried swapping motherboards, hard disks, CPUs. Any ideas?

Hi Steve,

Try copying the i386 directory from the CD to the hard drive and start the
upgrade from the i386 folder on the hard drive.

Thanks Ken - I got a similar reply from a friend here on
campus. It's on the bench and hopefully cooperating.
