During installation, I received the message "Microsoft Client Protection has
been found. Please remove that product and rerun the setup." I have
Microsoft Security Essentials already installed on my computer. Does it have
anything to do with this?

Yes. Microsoft Security Essentials includes the functionality of Windows
Defender--no need to install Windows Defender on an XP machine with
Microsoft Security Essentials installed.

I must say I don't like that error message, though: It is suggesting that
you remove an antivirus product in order to install an anti-spyware product.
Not a good idea!

FRUSTRATED

In August I paid $49 for the Live One Care virus Protection, I was told is
was the BEST because it came from MS. Well 3 months later my computer
crashed...now I have NO OPTION TO REINSTALL because MS went out of the Live
One Care business.

Frustrated is actually putting it mildly. I feel "taken" by MS. When I go
to the links that I see on the FORUM it only gives me the option to install a
trial version. Paying $49 for 3 months of Virus protection is way too
expensive.

IF THERE IS A PLACE FOR THOSE WHO PAID FOR A FULL YEAR'S SUBSCRIPTION TO
REINSTALL A FULL VERSION --- PLEASE TELL ME.

You should not only be able to reinstall, but I at least was sent an email indicating a free extension to my OneCare license.

Indeed--installing the trial version is the right way to go about this:

http://help.live.com/Help.aspx?mark...pe=topic&query=OneCare_PROC_Installations.htm

Simply sign in with the same Live ID you used for your purchase.

I believe you will see an expiration date consistent with your original license purchase.

If you have reached the limit of three machines, I'm not sure what happens, but I'm sure there's a way to handle it.

Please try this route and see how it works out?
