Insert a New Photo Album

J

Jean

Hi guys,

I'm using PowerPoint 2003 with SP1 update. Windows XP
Pro, I use to be able to insert "New Photo Album" not any
more. Everytime, I try to insert a new bunch of pictures,
I choose nthe pictures to insert and the type of insert
(i.e. 1 picture per slide) Once I clik on insert, I'll
have an error message.

Can you pls help me!
Thanks,
Jean

Dear Sonia,

Thank you for your kind follow up. The error message is the following:
"Microsoft Office PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

PS: I'v completely removed Office and restart my computer then re
install it again with exactly the same problem What confuse me is that
when I 1st purchased and installed Office XP Pro, I didn't have this
problem at all.

I hope this could help. Waiting for your kind response
Jean

Let's try to pin it down. Can you try just selecting one picture and insert it?
What happens? Also, where are the pictures located? Are they on a shared
network drive, or on CD or thumb drive? What format are they - - JPG, PNG,
TIFF, BMP?

Q) Let's try to pin it down. Can you try just selecting one picture and insert it?
A) I tried and it gives me the same error message whether it's 1 picture, 2 or more.

Q) What happens? Also, where are the pictures located? Are they on a shared
network drive, or on CD or thumb drive?
A) The pictures are in My documents/my pictures/... on my hard disk

Q) What format are they - - JPG, PNG,TIFF, BMP?
A) They are in JPGs, different sizes small or large, compressed and not compresses

You're using PowerPoint 2003 with SP1, is that correct? Not PowerPoint 2002?
You mentioned both in your original post, so we need to know for sure.

You mentioned Office XP Pro, which contains PowerPoint 2002, so that's why I
asked. When you "removed" PowerPoint 2003, did you uninstall if via the Control
Panel? That's the only thing I can think of at this point.

I've never mentioned 2002. I am using Office 2003 and not 2002.

Have you tried Help, Detect and Repair from PowerPoint's menu bar?

Also, do you have other software that can accept JPGs, PNGs etc?
If so, try opening these same files there. If that works, save them under new names
and see if you can Insert, Picture, From File to bring the newly saved versions into
PPT.

You might also try adding the pictures manually to Clip Organizer and then bringing
them from there into PPT, at least as a stopgap.

Q> Have you tried Help, Detect and Repair from PowerPoint's menu bar?

A> Yes I did detect and repair and it copied new files to my computer
but nothing changed in terms of the insert a new album function. Still
dosen't work

Q> Also, do you have other software that can accept JPGs, PNGs etc?
If so, try opening these same files there. If that works, save them

A> I can insert picture from file with no problem. It's the insert New
Photo Album that is the problem.

Q> You might also try adding the pictures manually to Clip Organizer
and then bringing them from there into PPT, at least as a stopgap.

A> Again my problem is only with the insert new photo album, and I
need to insert about 150 pictures in the same file to do a slide
collage with music and ballons text, doing it 1 at the time is
painful.

Thanks for your patience!

And for yours. <g>

I just had another thought. The insert Photo Album feature used to be
accomplished by an add-in in earlier versions of PPT. Now if you had that
add-in installed earlier, then when you upgraded to 2003, it may have tried to
"migrate" the add-in but the add-in doesn't work in later versions of PPT, as I
recall. Getting vague here, I know. Might be because I never used the thing,
might be the gray hair.

Check Tools, Addins ... see if any addins are listed there.

And let me know where you found the Photo Album item on the menu ... in 2003,
the built-in one is at:

Insert, Picture, New Photo Album ...

Another approach, and a more flexible one, is to try Shyam Pillai's Image

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -

Hello,

Did you know that you can automatically send a crash Microsoft nearly any
time an Office 2002 or Office System 2003 application crashes?

When the crash occurs a crash reporting dialog will appear with a message
that begins something like: "Microsoft Office <application> has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

When this occurs:

1) Click on "What data does this report contain?
2) Note down the following information:

* AppName:
* AppVer:
* AppStamp:
* ModName:
* ModVer:
* ModStamp:
* fDebug:
* Offset:

3) There might also be a "bucket" number. If so, note down that number as
well.
3) Click "Close"
4) Click "Send Error Report

If you post the information noted in steps 2 and 3 above to this newsgroup
I might be able to verify whether or not this is already a known issue and,
if it's known, possibly a way to avoid or fix the problem in the future.

Send a crash Microsoft?

Is that some kind of super DOS attack? ;-)
