Inbox repair tool does not repair outlook

Daniella

Hi,

I think somehow my outlook got corrupted and more
specifically my contacts folder. I am running Outlook
2000. This is what I do:

1. Select Contacts
2. Select New
3. Type in the name of my new contact
4. Save & Close
5. Error message:"Errors have been detected in the file
R:\Outlook Transfer\Outlook.pst. Quit all mail-enabled
applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool."

I have already run the repair tool from Outlook CD, but to
no avail. Next I created a new Contacts forlder which I
named Contact and copied all my contacts in it. I had no
problems adding a new contact. My question is: Is there a
way to repair the existing Contacts forlder? If yes, how?
If not, how can I delete the corrupted forlder?
I have already tried, but the Delete option is greyed out.

Thanks

You may export the data with our pst copy tool
(http://www.outlookfolders.de/download/GER/CopyPST.zip, freeware). If
CopyPST reports some important information as missing, you may try using
Ontrack (http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoveryfilerepair/) to repair your
file.

Since description for CopyPST is in German, here a small manual:
After download and installation, create a new PST file in Outlook and name
it differntly from your existing file, also give it a different display
name.
Start CopyPST from the start menu and choose both files, which appear in a
combo box, then press start.
CopyPST tries to copy all elements which are still readable and reports
which elements it is unable to copy, you may later try to manually extract
as many information from damaged elements with Outlook.
Make the new PST file the default one and remove the old file from your
profile.
CopyPST only copies visible elements, forms, settings, views etc.are not
copied.

Was it "scanpst.exe" that you ran? The Inbox Repair Tool is not the same as
Detect and Repair.

I've been having the same problem with my Contact folder. I have trie
to download the Freeware CopyPST but it refuses to open. My compute
tells me that there are errors and had to shut it down. Is ther
another way to get this freeware?

I have run both. The first time it seemed that the problem
was corrected, but after I tried to synchronise my
contacts file with my PDA it gave an error: "Unresolved
problem". I deleted from the PDA the new contact I had
added and the problem went away, but it still persists on
the my PC. Then I run both application, but to no avail.
That is why I created the new Contact file and copied all
my contacts.
So, is there a way of getting rid of the main Contacts
folder? How can I make my new contac folder the main one?

Thanks

You can't, but you can create a new .PST file and copy the data from the old
one to the new one.
