Impossible To Follow Support Requirements

I am trying to find out what the Windows XP Professional
notification means "Installer cannot be run inside
Windows" which is the response I get when I try to install
a repaired version of Windows XP Pro - once the computer
takes forever and a day to churn - through what, God only
knows!

I tried to get warranty help from MS on this, but it
requires the "Product ID" which, in turn, can only be
obtained by accessing the About screen in the Help portion
9of the program. This is just fine and dandy for those
whose installation of Windows XP Pro is working at least
well enough for them to get access to this Product ID
area. However, this is TOTALLY USELESS to someone in my
situation where the damn Windows XP Pro will not install.

I am terribly frustrated by all the nonsense one is put
through in order to try to get help. I'm supposed to be
studying for the California bar exam, and I'm spending
days on end trying to get my lousy computer to work!

The Product ID is on the box if you purchased Windows XP Pro. If it came
bundled on a new system, there's probably a sticker on the tower unit with
the Product ID. If you purchased the product, and lost the ID:

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
OS

I am not sure what you are asking here! You don't "install" a repaired
version. You reinstall Windows XP on top of itself to repair a defective
operating system.

What are you trying to accomplish and what, exactly, are you doing?

The Product ID is generated during the setup of XP, so it cannot be on the
box or any other packaging. The CD key is on the packaging or computer case
and is not what the OP is referring to.
