Importing dbx files from Express to Outlook on different PCs

Bill

I am trying to import my Outlook Express e-mail messages
from an old PC to Outlook 2003 on a new PC. I have
copied all the files from my Identities folder on the old
machine to the new one. When I Import through Outlook, I
get a message that says "The mail folder could not be
opened. If another application is using this file, please
close it and try again." No other programs are open.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Do you happen to have a version of Outlook on the old PC? If so, I'd import
the messages into it, then copy the .pst file to the new machine and import
from the old .pst file.

Never import a .pst file into Outlook - you are guaranteed to lose important
items, like custom forms, birthdays/anniversaries on the calendar,
connection between contacts and activities, received dates on mail, etc.
Always use File->Open to access the items in the .pst file and then use drag
and drop if you want to unify the .pst files.

What is this, Milly? "After searching google.groups.com and finding no

It's an attempt by Milly to remind people they shouldn't just blindly ask
whatever question they want, expecting others to spend time and energy they
themselves are too lazy to do, but to use the wetware between their ears
fist and attempt to find their answer themselves by using Google. But she's
too nice to say that.

You need to first configure OE on the new machine to reas those messages.
See http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/ for information. After OE can see them
and you have properly configured Outlook, you can use OE to export them
directly into Outlook.
