Importing an Excel spreadsheet into Access 2002

Hello,

I have an Excell spreadsheet, with ALL text fields. Now some of these
columns have data that looks like number data, but the Format Cells dialog
was used to set them all to Text. This was not sufficient to avoid the
dreaded Type conversion failure. I wildly guessed that including a single
quote at the beginning of the column with numeric appearing data on the first
row. This allowed the data to be imported without the tyupe conversion error.

However, now some of the numeric appearing text data IS BEING CONVERTED TO
SCIENTIFIC NOTATION??!!??

Let me reiterate: every field everywhere is defined as Text.

How can I get Access to import the data I tell it to import without making
STUPID CHANGES. Sorry about the shouting, but I am telling clients this is a
trivial process, as it should be, and I am getting bit, over and over again,
by these stupid tricks.

Argh.

I have included an extra step:converting the Excell file to a Tab delimited
file. This circumvents the issues I have been encountering.
