No dont laugh, honest i'm offering advice to a friend over AntiVirus & Firewall with their Vista pc.
They have been using Norton but the free 90 days is now up & norton want ££££.
What would be an easy FREE AntiVirus & Firewall to get & that is user friendly.

AVG has always been the least effective of the three main freebies anyway, so no loss.

Unless of course, Antivir & Avast decide to drop the freebies.

In which case I'd probably pay for either Nod32 or Kaspersky.

As for the Firewall, dunno, I trust to Vista's software firewall coupled with my Router's hardware firewall.

There has been a bit of confusion regarding AVG free being discontinued. Rumours have been circulating that some of the free version's functions would cease after 30 days, others say that it's going to be discontinued altogether. (I have been following some of this, because I still use it on our XP machine.) Anyway, on the Grisoft website, it says:

Important information about e-mail scanning

Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet, AVG Free 8.0 does not include any "trial" or "time-out" functionality. Every option provided in the program is fully functional for the life of the product. Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0

There isn't anything there about the free version being discontinued though. I think much of the conjecture has come about, because quite a lot of people have had some difficulty in finding the download page for the free version. It's here: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-avg-anti-virus-free-edition

:D
