IISInfoCtrs Error 1003. Q201638 don't solve.

Andrea Ferraris

I have the application log full of following errors (1
every 15 second), since some weeks, it is since I stopped
IISAdmin, that we don't use (it's useless to live active
a service that eats resources and could have security
problems):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: IISInfoCtrs
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1003
Date: 19/08/2003
Time: 3.44.58
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER_TECN
Description:
Unable to query the IIS Info service performance data.
The error code returned by the service is data DWORD 0.

Looking for this error I found only an article of the
Knowledge Base (Q201638) that says that you could get the
error if there are the Performance Monitor active and IIS
stopped. That's not the case, because on my server the PM
is stopped and disabled.

In the past weeks I already tried to restart IIS, then
the PM, then to stop the PM and ISS and also to reboot
the server, but the problem continues and my application
log is almost always full.

Somebody has some clues or hints?

Thanks and best regards,

Andrea Ferraris

Hi Andrea,

Since you are not using the problem IISInfoCtrs counter a workaround would be to
disable it. An easy way to disable Performance Monitor Counters is to use the
Extensible Performance Counter List application (exctrlst.exe). You can find
exctrlst.exe on the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit companion CD or you can
download it as one of the "Free Tool Downloads". For more information, see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:

KB274305 - Free Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tools for Administrative Tasks
