I need a dumbed down version of RD Setup

Ok, When it comes to networking I need the idiots guide to figure it out and
sometimes that doesn't even help.
I was following the instructions at this link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315328
and I got stuck at step 5 of the connection process.
"5. In the Computer list, type the host name or the IP address of the
computer to which you want to connect. "
I tried to "browse for more" computers link but when I saw my workgroup and
clicked on it I recieved this message:
"The domain/workgroup does not contain any Terminal servers."
What does that mean?
How do I figure out my IP address?
How do I know if it is "static" on not?
What do I do if I am using a router to connect my network and internet.
What is a terminal server? Is it going to die soon?
Seriously, I really would like to set this up but I do not know the
terminology and how to do some basic things that many assume everyone knows.
I recommend in Step 1 of configuring the Remote computer there is a section
that states "know your IP address and other vital information about your
computer so you can complete step 3"
When you reply assume that I know nothing about networking and we will start
from there.
Thank you for your help.
