I just got a All-in-one Hp Fax machine, can I fax from the computer?

I don't have a manual yet, my son is sending it to me, but I like to know if
I can fax from the computer via this machine to a fax number. I never faxed
anything other then by way of manual feeding paper into a fax machine. I
don't know why I think it is even possible to do this, but it sounds nice.
I'm using Win XP home with all updates..........Peter

You can fax from your computer, with or without the all-in-one machine, as
long as you are connected to a phone line. This does not mean you must be
using a dial-up ISP, but that a phone line must be connected to the computer
or the all-in-one. Generally, faxing using an all-in-one requires you to
manually feed the document to be faxed into the machine. Using Win XPs'
built-in fax software does not require that, but the software is a little
difficult to use for some people (me, anyway).
There is a way to send faxes over the internet, but you have to sign up and
pay for an internet fax service such as www.eFax.com

Just to add to what I sent before, the built-in fax software is found (on my
machine) on the "Start" menu under "Accessories" then "Communications" You
are looking for "Fax Console".
So that's "Start- All Programs- Accessories- Communications- Fax- Fax
Console"

Good luck

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your two emails, you made my day.
I'll find the program and start playing with it. I don't mind paying for
this service with efax.com, I just needed it and had no idea where to start.
I thought I needed something like the all-in one to be able to fax. Have a
great day, and thanks again very much.............Peter

You're welcome.
I hope I didn't lead you to think you need eFax to fax with your computer.
The fax software in Win XP does not need eFax to work, it just needs a phone
line and patience (to learn how to use it.). eFax is about $13 a month and
has some additional costs on top of that.
I personally would rather use the all-in-one to fax, as it's more like a
regular fax machine, but that's just me :)

Hi Peter

U can but you will have to use either fax soft ware in xp
or somthing like Bitware, which will send via your
printer.

It does work as i use this my self on both sets of
software programmes

You didn't say what type of connection but a normal fax will work only for a
modem, not DSL or Cable. HP has instructions for installing a fax with DSL
or Cable. Use a search in the HP web for the specific 4-in-1 you have.

Thanks guys for this wonderful helpChuck, Frank and rossnr. I'm an old guy
trying to do too much at a time. Anyway, I will look into the XP software
usage first of course. Some of the grandkids can only be reached by
fax.......don't ask.............I appreciate you all for this generous
help..............thanks...............Peter...The machine I have is a
OfficeJet 6110 all -in-one.
