I have a problem with my DVD-CD-ROM Pioneer DVR-K12D

Hi!
I have a Toshiba SP-520 with Windows XP SP2 installed
My problem is: The CD-ROM can`t Run, Read or Write CD's, only can Run, Read
and Writer DVD's, I don´t know whats the problem help me please!!!

Different lasers for DVD vs CD. Either one is dirty or dead.

Dvd Pioneer Dvr-k12d Does Not Work!

Hi, My PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K12D does not read DVDs, it's ok with CDs it R/W with no problems. But the DVD does not work. I don't know what the problem is because I have uninstalled and taken appart my Toshiba Satellite Laptop (No warranty left... so I might as well break it myself). and reinstalled everything but it doesn't read DVDs any more. The only thing left for me to do is to reformat the hard disk, but the recovery is in a DVD so I can't read it in order to recover my PC. HELLPPP!!!

If your drive is still in warranty, I'd return it and get another one. The
laser is probably gone. These type of drives use different lasers for
reading cds and dvds. If it's out of warranty, then you'll better off just
buying another one. Combo drives have gotten dirt cheap now. I just
checked on newegg.com and there was some less than $40.

NOpe no warranty, i think I will think into getting a new one. I still have to reformat and save my hard drive and try one last solution. But if it is what I think, I will be spending some money on an extra DVD player for my Toshiba Laptop. This sucks!!!!
