I am Locked out of my access database 2000

I tried to set up the security through the security wizard. I printed the
paper. the VBE password says it is not set. I have made several attempts to
try to fix it.

I am afraid in doing so I have made things a whole lot worse:-(

I tried to rename my back up file but it still prompts me a password but I
have no idea what it is. I searched my computer for *.mdw and found it but
when I go to tools/security/ ????? there is no option for workgroup
administrator.

I have locked my self out of it and I am not coping at work very well now.

Please help,

Thanks,

Caren

Your backup file is likely the one you want to return to. You say it's
asking for a password, but I'll assumne you really meant username/password,
as password only is a different beast.

It's asking you for this, not because your backup file is secured (it
isn't), but because you are joined by default to a secure mdw. It's the mdw
that asks for a username/pwd, not your database.

Access 2000 does not have the workgroup administrator in the Tools menu.
Use Start, Run...wrkgadm.exe
Rejoin the standard system.mdw that ships with Access (perhaps search for it
first)

Now you should be able to open your backup file. If you can and everything
is ok, I'd suggest you delete the secure mdw, and any secure mdbs you
created.

If you want to try implementing security again, study up on it, practice on
a copy of your mdb. Do not use the wizard in 2000, as it was flawed. Some
resources:
Security FAQ

Security Whitepaper

Although the whitepaper is old, it contains information to help you
understand security.

I've also outlined the detailed steps at

Joan, you are right about the user name password. I have locked myself out of
access I guess. I must have really done a number.

I tried what you said. They joined succesfully. It still is asking me for a
password. I don't remember making a password. I still cant open anything. I
need to get rid of the user name password prompt.

I really appreciate your help.

Ok,

I did a little research. I replaced the old system.mdw with one from another
computer. Now I am getting an error message. "You don't have the necessary
permissions to use the <bane> object. Have your system administrator or the
person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."

I reasearched this and its said No Open/Run permissions on source database
or No Read Data permissions on table in source database.

What does this mean? Help.

Thanks again,

Ok Joan,

Thank you for all of your help. Somehow I managed to get things going again.
I looked at almost all of the posts from previous people in my shoes.

Thanks again! You are so helpful!!!

I am so relieved
