HP Laserjet 2420d printing very lightly- suggestions?

Have had this printer for about 6 years now. For the last year, it has been
printing very lightly. I've tried cleaning it by going through the cleaning
software process several time, but it didn't help. I've also tried setting
the print to be darker, but no good. I've also changed toner cartridges.
Speaking of cartridges, how long can they be kept unused and unopened? When
I switched toner, the new cartridge had been on the shelf for 5 years. I
wouldn't think this would matter, but thought I would mention it.
Appreciate any suggestions to get my quality print back. Thanks in advance,

Unlike ink, toner is dry and thus has a very long shelf life. If the printer is printing
lightly, check for density settings on the printer to print darker.

Could be a corona wire or other hardware problem that only a repair facility can fix.

I got the some problem with my printer that is HP Laserjet 2420. i am unable to print one of my friend suggest me better to re-install the drivers once again
i tried is same thing now my printer working is good. so if you have any problem with your printer better to re-install the drivers once again and check it
