How track cause of open Systen32 window at bootup?

After a very slow boot my desktop has an open Win Explorer folder
showing the System32 directory.

Seems as if some application failed and it left that window open.

How can I trace which application called that System32 window?

Try this: Start>Control Panel>Tools>Folder Options>View tab and ucheck "Restore previous folder Windows at logon". Click Ok, but do not reboot.
Start>Run and type "msconfig" without the quotes. On the "General" tab choose "Diagnostic Mode", OK and reboot. If the folder doesn't show, go to "msconfig" and choose "Normal mode".

Take a look at MSCONFIG.

Start > Run > MSCONFIG > Startup.

This will show all startup processes, be very careful what you say can
and can't boot.

Put the name into www.google.it if unsure. Otherwise, post back here
in this same thread.

This can be caused by a blank entry, such as can be left behind by an
incomplete program removal, in the:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and/or
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

If i follow you correctly then even if the folder show up, i am not
better off than when i boot up and see the folder and don't know
where it came from/.
