How to Unlock

I just created my first Excel Worksheet that is anything more then a simple
list. This project is also among my first Excel projects. After creating, I
put it on our server in our shared documents file, which has beome a very
successful and unconfusing way for us to share our documents. This time
however, this project says it is locked and can only be opened by others as
Read Only - a problem that didn't exist in any of the other projects I've
created. I've searched Help as well as this forum and the General forum for
ideas about how to unlock the project and so far not discovered anything I
recognize as what I think I am looking for. Somewhere in my reading I found
Tools - Protection - Allow Users to Edit Ranges... but I don't find anything
there about 'unlocking'. There seems to be a great deal of interest in how to
lock a project, and I haven't been successful in reverse engineering any of
those answers to solve my problem. Heck I don't even know what I did to lock
everyone out of my project. Any ideas anyone wishes to share about how to
unlock a project to allow all access would be greatly appreciated. I would
also enjoy any ideas about what I may have done to create a Read Only
project. Thanks, K.

The first person that opens it has full read/write privileges. Anyone
else opening the doc while they have it open will be read only.
Have everyone close it and then see if it can be opened and edited.

Glad to help. If you need to have multiple people using and changing
the info then you may want to consider Access. Keep in mind that Access
isn't just Excel on steroids. It has kind of a steep learning curve but
your needs seem pretty simple. Of course, there is an Access group where
you can get help.

Thanks. Our stumbling in Excel may be an indication that Access may have to
wait a while, but it's good to know a higher octane is available. Appreciate
the help. K.
