How to type a macron (hyphen over an "n") in Word 2003

I tried to type a macron over an n, but since there are no symbols like that
in the bank of symbols, I couldn't seem to get it to work.

Jay has given you an answer, but are you sure you want a macron and not a
tilde? The keyboard shortcut for ñ is Ctrl+~, n.
