Hi,

We have a Windows 2000 server in our network. Our
objective is to send/receive fax from our boss who is in
UK. I have no knowledge on this and can any one help in
explaining in a lay men level what are the requirements to
connect our phone line to the server and set up the fax
services such that we can send/receive fax. I a technical
giy but to be on the safer side of better understanding
please explain me from the initial stage.

You cannot share "Fax" on Windows 2000. This is however supported in
SBS2000. Windows Server2003 onwards, sharing of Fax is supported. Fax will
be installed as a share able printer, clients can add and print to this
printer for faxing.

Sharing of Fax Printer is not supported in Windows 2000. You can send Faxes
from sitting on the console or connecting through TS Client. If you install
SBS2000 on that computer, you get shared Fax support. To Set up Faxing,
install a FAX Modem device on the computer, this automatically kicks of
Windows Fax Software installation. Shortcuts for Fax are added under Start |
Programs | Accessories | Communications | Fax

Thanks,
Anand
