How to remove Tools Menu from IE or remove Read News option

Zeke Smith

I am trying to lock down my XP desktops. I have locked down all other IE
options using group policy, however, I cant find a way to remove the TOOLS
Menu option. This is important because anyone can run Outlook Express Read
News and I must disable this option. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Zeke

I have done that and the users are prevented from running Outlook
express(msimn.exe), but the tools menu, read news option calls an applet to
run. It does not call the msnmn.exe file which is the full blown Outlook
express.

I need to disable the Tools menu completely or the Read News option.

Thanks

just throwing up an idea, but how about disabling:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" "/newsonly"

that is what I have my desktop icon set to so to open up just OE news. Next
time I go on my server though I will see if there are other methods in GP to
disable the tools menu.

Robert,
Thanks for the suggestion, however, I have already used NTFS security rights
to not allow any reads to msimn.exe. As I mentioned, IE is not using this
file for the newsreader, it is using an internal applet or OCX to call it
up.

Thanks.

Zeke
