How to port Vista mails from a Vista PC to another Vista PC

I copied and pasted the old PC's Vista Mails to the new PC. However, I have
strange problems - such as the mail folders are copied by the Vista Mail, and
it takes a long time before I can really see emails on the Vista Mail
interface.

Could anyone nicely let me know what is the proper way to port Vista emails
from one machine to the other?

Thanks,
Yong

Hi Steve,

Thx for the reply! However, I encounter the error message - "No messages can
be found in this folder or another application is running that has required
files open ..."

What may cause this problem?

Cheers,

I just had the same issue. You may have to open each folder and drag the
eml files overtop a WinMail folder and drop them for it to work. I got that
to work.

Please let me know whether I need to care about the winmail.fol file.

One more question is that if there are subfolders in any folder, the only
way I can get it work is to move the email files from each subfolder. This is
very tedious as I have to create the flder structure in my Vista Mail, and
then copy each subflders. Any better way to port emails is appreciated very
much!

I don't think the foi file is of importance. It has no messages in it.

File | Import | Messages should work, but it appears not to with the limited
testing I've done. Dragging and dropping does work, but as you said its
tedious with multiple subfolders.

You might get by with just replacing the entire contents of the message
store with the old message store (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm) from
the other computer.

And my OEX program (www.oehelp.com/OEX/) will let you import from a single
directory at a time, but that can be tedious as well.

Try replacing the entire contents of the message store directory but make
sure first that the files are not read only (as they would be if they came
off a CD).
