how to delete a Scrap file created by mistake

I was inserting cents sign symbol a lot and thought I could just move a
shortcut of the CENTS sign to my desktop to use in the future. Now I have a
document scrap file sitting there that I cannot delete or open but I can
paste the symbol into other docs. I'd like to get rid of it but cannot
delete it and I think this is now where the code for the cents sign is
stored. Is there a way to delete it and still have my cents sign that I use
often.

Thanks

There is a built-in keyboard shortcut for the cent symbol (Ctrl+/, c) or you
could assign your own through Insert | Symbol | Shortcut Key... That will be
a better approach once you've gotten rid of your scrap file.

According to KB138275, you can delete the desktop scrap (.shs) file the same
way you delete any other desktop shortcut, with the exception that "If you
select and delete the desktop icon, the corresponding .shs file is also
deleted."

Bob,

Thank you very much for reminding me I could just drag file to recycle bin
and that that would allow me to delete it; I always click on item to delete
and then select "delete" from what I call the "Other button" drop down list
(I am left-handed and have switched my mouse). I kept getting message that
file was in use, etc. Also I appreciated the assurance that my cents symbol
would still be there in Word and it is! Case Closed...Thanks again, Rhoda

Put your fears to rest - there is no way that what you are concerned about
could happen :)

You have apparently double-clicked the scrap & activated an OS feature that
will not allow you to delete it. The next time you log in simply drag the
scrap to the Recycle Bin (or rt-click it, select Delete). You should be able
to trash it with no problem.

Suzanne,

thanks for your suggestion. I find the control key combinations a bit
awkward to use and thought my shortcut idea would be quicker (it did allow me
to paste my symbol in just fine) but normal delete methods were not working
at all (file in use message). I'm all set now. Bob's suggestion to drag it
to recylce bin did the trick. Thanks...Rhoda
