No such thing as a "corporate" version. Right click on My
Computer/Properties and you will see what version you have.

Michael,

I believe this is what you mean.

* Insert the Windows XP CD
* Open Windows Explorer, navigate to: D:\I386, click 'Setupp.ini'
* Note the last 3 digits next to Pid=
Note:

Use the below table to conclude which version of Windows XP is installed

xxxxx335
xxxxx270
xxxxxOEM

OEM = OEM (Manufacturers (BestBuy) who resell another company's (Microsoft)
product under their own packaging name and logos

335 = Retail (A boxed (By Microsoft) Windows product purchased from a retail
outlet (BestBuy) but with it's own packaging name and logos

270 = Volume License (Corporate version, for organizations needing multiple
copies of Windows software)

Hello Drew thanks for your answer.
And if theres no setup cd available?
because I need to know if I have to do a repair installation (in case
its a corporate edition)or only to change the product key (if its a
normal XP prof) on the computer of a customer

Well, there's no such thing as WinXP "Corporate," for starters....

For sure thats not the problem!
to explain the whole case:
a computer seller sold to a customer of mine a computer with installed
win XP but it seems that its not a legal copy.
So to legalize it :) the customer wants to buy a new win xp prof.
But if the installed Xp is a XP prof corporate edition one has to do a
repair installation
else
if the installed Xp is a normal XP prof its enough to cahnge the serial
number
So I like to know how to identify the version, to tell the customer
about the cost to legalize the system

Were it my customer, knowing that he/she'd ended up with illegitimate
software from an apparently untrustworthy vendor, I'd strongly recommend
formatting the hard drive and performing a clean installation. There's
no telling just what sort of other illicit software, most especially
malware, that the unscrupulous vendor might also have "bundled" with the OS.

Michael,

Try looking in the registry (regedit.exe) at:

Michael,

I don't see my reply from yesterday. It was in my 'Sent Items' folder.
Anyway, I resent it, sorry about the delay.
