How do I uninstall update from Windows update page

J

Jimt

I recently updated my internal card reader with a hardware update from the
Windows update page. The update was titled Genesys USB Mass Storage Device.
After it installed my card reader would no longer function. I didn't find
anything in the add/remove programs list so I did a system restore and
things are back to normal. However, I notice that the update is still
showing on the update page and is ready to install. Where are these updates
stored on my computer and how can I delete it.

Thanks, Jim

One. That will teach you to download drivers from Windows update. You
have better odds playing Russian Roulette than installing drivers from
Windows Update successfully.

Two. Usually there is a little check box on Windows update to hide the
the particular update you don't want to see.

Three. You should learn to take control of your Updates cutting out the
extra layers of code that Microsoft, Windows, and Automatic Updates add
to the process. It is just an unnecessary layer of crap that just adds
more possibilities for errors to occur while updating your software.

Kurt,

1. Thanks for the curt or is it Kurt response.

2. I just wanted a little help not an unsolicited lecture.

3. I assume from your response that if I check the box to hide the update,
if I update something else in the future it won't install (even though it is
sitting somewhere on my hard drive) ? This is the main reason I want to
remove/delete it.

Thanks, Jim

The latter.

I wasn't trying to be curt.

That is help. Most computer-knowledgable people KNOW not to install
device drivers unless there is a need, and then only from the
manufacturer of the devise.

It won't install from Windows Update after you check off of the box.
And as long as you don't do a driver search for that device, it
shouldn't install the MS-supplied driver.

Thanks again for the response. Since my card reader wasn't working up to
par, I decided to try out the update. That rendered it unusable. I was
able to get it back to the previous state by doing a system restore. No
harm no foul. So why all the hoopla?

Now, since you gave me some advice, let me give you some. Not everyone who
uses this group is computer knowledgeable so why slam someone who asks a
legitimate question? Your advice is welcomed and appreciated. Your
attitude isn't.

LOL! You don't know what slamming is.

And the attitude is in your head, not mine. I passed along information
that you didn't have, and you assumed more than that. Believe me, if I
was trying to be anything other than helpful, you would have left here
crying.
