how do i turn off the confirm delete in microsoft word?

whenever i double-click on a word (the entire word is then selected) and hit
'delete', a small question in the bottom left hand corner of the status bar
says, Delete Block? No (Yes)', and i have to hit the 'y' key to actually
delete the word. this is different than just a few days ago when all i had to
do was hit delete and the word would disappear. what happened, and how do i
turn off the confirm delete function? please help...thanks in advance!
