How do I make my Powerpoint slide show take up the entire screen?

On my laptop computer, when I show a slideshow, the picture only takes up
part of the screen (I have a new VAIO laptop with a nice wide LCD screen and
I want to use all of it.) The slides are fine in the editor, but the
slideshow only uses about 2/3 of the screen.

1) Check SlideShow, Set Up Slideshow, the resolution setting. It should be
[Use Current Resolution]

2) If your computer's screen is wider than the usual 4:3 ratio, you'll need to
set the File, Page Setup, Slide Size in PPT to something proportional to your
laptop's screen size.

Thank you Steve!! You have no idea how many people I've contacted who have
not been able to solve my problem. I certainly knew about choosing the
current resolution - but I didn't realize that the Page Setup would affect
the screen.

Just one last question - when I change the Page Setup to my screen size - it
always changes to "Custom" and will not use this setting for "screenshow".
Is there any way to make the new custom setting the default for all screen
shows in the future?

Thank you Steve - this was very helpful. Just one more question - when I
change the File...Page Setup settings it saves it as "custom". Is there any
way to make this custom setting the default for all slideshows on this laptop?

Cool! I'm glad I could help. Thanks for posting back.

If I'm understanding you correctly, there's no need to use the Page Setup/Slide
Size setting for your screen show (ie, Slide Show, Set Up Show, Resolution)
setting. Use Current should be fine, so long as the current hardware setup matches
the proportions of your page setup. If not, the worst thing that'll happen is that
it'll "letterbox" ... put black bands top and bottom like your tv does with
widescreen movies.

I'm not positive, but I think "Use Current Resolution" is the default slide show
setting. Anybody want to disabuse me of that dream? ;-)

[later, after reading your other post]

Ah. NOW I get it. Start a new presentation using any template you like.
W/o adding any content, change the page size and then do File, Save As. Choose
Presentation Design (*.POT) as the Save As type, give it a name then save it in the
location PPT defaults to.

Now all you need to do is start a new presentation based on your template and
you're good to go. Also, it varies by version but you can save your template as
Blank Presentation.POT and it'll become the new default when you start a new blank
presentation.
