How do I get rid of logon screen/ how do I get rid of messanger?

I am running windows XP home edition. I am the only user
and will be the only user. Is there any way to get rid of
the "sign on" screen when I turn on my PC and is there
any way to get rid of messanger? Its annoying that it
pops up whenever I start my PC, check mail, etc.

If your system is up to date messenger can be removed with Add/Remove
windows Components
The log-on screen can be changes in control panel - users - "change the way
users log on and off"

Try going to your Start Menu in programs and uncheck
messanger. This should stop it loading at start up.
