How do I get Outlook to notify me of new mail?

I am running Outlook 2003 on WinXP. I have all of the latest service packs
and updates for both XP and Office.

I have tried many configurations, but cannot get Outlook to notify me when I
receive new mail. There is no audible alert, system icon, or popup alert,
even thoguh I have enabled all of these features. When new messages arrive,
they do not show in my inbox until I manually check for new messages. Even
then, the notifications do not happen.

I used to use Outlook Express, and all of these features would work without
problem. Any ideas?

Click onto "Tools" and then "Preferences", and then onto "Email options" and
next onto "Advanced email options"
You should then see “when new items arrive in my inbox†under which there
will be “play a soundâ€, “Show and envelope icon in the notification areaâ€
(that’s the bit with the clock in it) and “Display a New Mail Desktop Alertâ€
Tick all of the boxes, and then click onto OK. This will cause all of these
things to happen when you receive an email! However they will only happen if
you have Outlook running (even if it is minimised). If Outlook is not running
then you will not get the alerts until you next open the programme!

Hey Scott,

Thanks for responding... but I've already got those settings checked. That's
the problem. Even with those settings established, the notifications don't
happen.
