How do I DISABLE Picture & Fax Viewer?

D

DocTa

Howdy!

I need to know how to totally DISABLE the Windows Picture
& Fax Viewer.

I have a program I use for graphics (ACDSee 3.1) and I
have it set as default for all graphic file types.

Yet, when I double-click a file the P & F Viewer opens it.

When I open the properties box for the file (GIF, JPG,
etc) it says right there that ACDSee is what opens it, But
the P & F Viewer still pops up.

I know how to use the "Open With..." procedure to set
ACDSee to open the files But I want that Stupid P & F
Viewer DISABLED ALTOGETHER!

Thank you,

DT

PS: If you can tell me where the setting is in the
registry I can edit that if I have to.

Solution #1:
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ SystemFileAssociations\ image\ ShellEx\
ContextMenuHandlers.
Delete the ShellImagePreview key.
Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take effect
immediately.

Solution #2:
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ CLSID\
{e84fda7c-1d6a-45f6-b725-cb260c236066}\ shellex.
Delete the MayChangeDefaultMenu key.
Close the Registry Editor when you're done; the change will take effect
immediately.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

Thank you very much.
That P & F Viewer is (was?) extremely annoying!

Thanks again,

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Taurarian!!!

I have been plauged with this problem for months since I
added Windows Fax and no file association change that I
made would stop that ridiculous Picture and Fax Viewer
from coming up, even when I reset file associations
through Folders ---> File Types. Your advice took
seconds to complete! :)

And THANK YOU DocTa, for asking this question, because I
was just about to post the same!!! :)

Hi Elliot,

Cool!

XP does have some stupid and annoying "Features" doesn't
it?

Have a Good one ...I Do!
