Please help me understand how I correct the following error message:
0x80042110 -
Task 'SBC Global - Receiving' reported error (0x80042110) : 'Your POP3
server is providing inconsistent information. The number of messages
returned by the STAT command does not match the number of items returned by
the UIDL or LIST commands. Contact your POP3 or Internet service provider.'

SBC is stating that this is a Microsoft error.

SBC is blowing smoke in your face. The problem is clearly theirs. However,
you may be able to fix it with the web interface. Log into SBC Yahoo mail
and create another folder. Move the contents of your Inbox to that folder
so that Inbox is empty. Let Outlook perform a send/receive cycle. This
should reset its counters and internal tracking data. Then, on the web
interface, move the messages back to Inbox and let Outlook try to process
them again.

Brian Tillman-you are the man. SBC didn't help at all. Your direction of creating a new folder and emptying out the inbox was right on. Thanks for the suggestion.

I am having the same issue, only I use Yahoo Mail through www.yahoo.com (i.e.
pop.mail.yahoo.com) I have tried the folder creation and mail moving
technique and this has not worked for me - any other suggestions around it?
Thanks!!

I'm having the problem, too. SBC also said outlook's problem, not their's,
because I could set up and use outlook express. I tried (before reading
Brian's suggestion) deleting all emails in my mail.yahoo.com inbox. Closed
that, checked outlook and am still getting the error. I went back to
mail.yahoo.com and it's stating there's 1 item in my inbox but, there's
nothing there/showing. This is making me crazy!

Hoping someone can assist! Thanks!

Carla again. I spent some time today with SBC - chat help (again a bit more
stubbornly on my part), that got me escalated to tier 2 and is now being
escalated to Yahoo. Supposedly Yahoo's tier will get back with a fix/reply
in 48 to I can't remember how many hours.

In any case, while we wait, another clue...I had cleared out ALL messages in
my mail.yahoo.com inbox. Yet the inbox still insists there is 1 message
while the area to the right says "There are no messages in your inbox.".

My guess is, of course, that's where the Task 'SBC Global - Receiving'
reported error (0x80042110) : 'Your POP3 server is providing inconsistent
information. The number of messages returned by the STAT command does not
match the number of items returned by the UIDL or LIST commands. Contact
your POP3 or Internet
service provider.'
is coming from.

I'll post whatever they get back to me with here when they do.

Carla one last time. SBC & Yahoo can fix this for you. It took a while for
me to get it escalated but once I did, it was sent to Yahoo and they fixed
it. If SBC tells you they can't, keep pushing.

Carla,

This is Portia from Yahoo Technical Support Team. Just browsing through this website and I read your mail. I just want to be of little help here. I understand that you are receiving an error code: 0x80042110. Most likely, the reason is that there is a corrupted mail on your webmail's inbox. corrupted mail, meaning that it is a deffered message that got distorted while mail server tried to transfer it from the sender to the recipent, in this case, to your inbox. So, it is true that by deleting and emptying you webmail's inbox, this error message will be resolved. However, if you had emptied your inbox and still the system is alerting you that there is one unread msg on your inbox (though when you check your inbox, nothing appeared), you may be experiencing what we call "ghost email". With Yahoo, we do escalate this to our engineering team so we can correct your inbox. But, I am not so sure what is the procedure with SBC. Please contact your SBC provider and inform them that you are experiencing "Ghost email" issue on you account.
