How do get CDRom Drive to work in XPE?

I am running on a VIA EPIA-M motherboard with XP Pro on
partition 1 with partition 2 for XPE images. With XP Pro
the CD drive (40X no brand visible) works great, but in
XPe it can't read the (data) CDs. Device Manager in XPp
shows ATAPI CDROM V5.1.2535.0. I used TAP results as
basis for image. I've tried several CD ROM Drive
components, but none seem to work. Any ideas?
