How can I resize my primary partition?

I am trying to do a clean install of Win2K and I am having problems resizing
my primary partition. My hard drive was previously partitioned into 3 parts,
but now I want to keep only one partition, but during the install process,
win2K won't let me get rid of the 2nd partition (and/or won't let me resize
the primary partition). How can I fix this problem?

Insert the setup floppy discs

Once you get to install Windows to that partition by pressing enter... I
think you either choose 'L' & confirm delete of the partition or choose 'D'.
Its something like that 100%. Without the setup screen in front of me, I
cannot say exactly.

All you need to do is to delete the partitions you don't need or delete them
all, redo a primary partition & then format to NTFS. Windows can then be set
up on that partition.

that's the problem. it won't let me delete them all! is there a way around

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Some other ways include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk and delete all
partition information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or use a debug
session.

that's the problem. it won't let me delete them all! is
there a way around
this?

try using a program called Partition Magic search for it online using
www.google.com

If you use the floppy discs with the Windows 2000 CD in the drive it will
work for sure. Its never failed in the approx 300 times I have ever had to
do it.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
