How can I print an outline as an outline?

I want most of my outlines to be printed as outlines, printing them flat
destroys the conceptual organisation. Of course, I could manually indent,
number and so on, but that would nullify its ease of use.

Can you explain the situation further? When I print outlines, the indents
show up. What version of Word? What exactly are the steps you take, what
do you want to get, and what exactly do you get?

Note that if you are in Outline View, printing then will print what you see.
There is a bug where if you go into Print Preview, you will get the full
text instead, so don't do that.

As Daiya says, if you print from Outline view, you can get what you see
there. But don't let this view delude you into thinking that you have
created an indented outline. For that, you need to set up specific
outline-numbered styles, as described at

I guess I'm a bit naive - I expected Word Print Preview to give me a view of
what I was working with. The print preview does show my outlines as flat, and
printing from the outline view does print WYSIWYG - just what I want.
Thank you for putting me on the real road.
