How can I get Outlook 2007 to display SMTP "to" field

G

google

I have seen a bit of discussion on this issue but not seen a
resolution. I am running Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007. When e-
mails come in, the "to" field displays the Exchange "Display Name"
instead of the actual SMTP address. How can I change this?

You can't. You would need to look at the header to see which address it was
sent to - you can use rules to add categories as the mail arrived based on
words in the header.

When you double-click on the display name in the TO: field, does it not pop
up a window with the actual address?

It brings up the user object. If the user object has multiple addresses,
you'll still be guessing which the message was sent to.

Are there third party apps that can get the smtp address from the
headers (I can see it in there) and replace the displayed "to" field?

Not if the Exchange acct it was sent to has multiple SMTP addresses
assigned to it.

Back when I cared, I used a script on the incoming SMTP to add the 'envelope
to' field so I could ID which address BCC'd messages were intended for. If I
needed to know which of my smtp addresses it was sent to, I looked at the
header. At some point I stopped caring. :) (That was about the same time I
started blocking the addresses that ended up on spam lists.)

(I used the Envelope Headers script from http://www.vamsoft.com/tools.asp)

None that I'm aware of. I'm not sure if a custom field (using a cfg) for the
email address would work - it might just use the exchange object rather the
the To field on the message header.
