Hotmail emails from Outlook send multiple (multiple) times

When I send emails with large attachments, they seem to be sent about 5 times
each!

I'm kind of new to Outlook (used to use Outlook Express) and I've noticed a
few odd things. Last night I tried to send 4 emails, each with 3 or 4
attachments, that added up to about 4MB each (below the 10MB limit) and they
seemed to sit in the Outbox for ages, trying to send, until I deleted them.
However, when I looked in my Sent Items folder, they were each there about 5
times, and the person I was emailing had indeed received them that many times!

Why did it send them so many times? and how do I stop it from doing that?

Disable the anti-virus scanning of your mail.

will be deleted without reading.
